Author: [livejournal.com profile] telesilla
Fandom/Characters: RPS (Kept Boy AU), Dylan Neal, Kyle Schmid
Rating: overall NC-17
Word Count: ~1400
Disclaimer: Not RL; didn't happen. If you think this has anything to do with the real actors involved, then you really need to put down the crack pipe.
Warnings: none this chapter, overall, slavefic, which means dubious consent issues
Summary: Dylan tries to explain a few things to Kyle, which goes about as well as you'd expect.

Notes: As usual, thanks go out to [livejournal.com profile] poisontaster and [livejournal.com profile] darkrosetiger for their worlds and additional thanks to Nancy for looking this over. For those who need it, there's a cast of characters list, with photos here.

What the hell had he been thinking, buying Kyle like that?

Two things I really like about this: the law stating that slave testimony is only legal if obtained under the influence of truth drugs. Nice twist on the old Roman law that slave testimony is only valid if obtained during torture. Considering that torture damages the property and Commerce can't recoup any losses from slaves damaged during torture, the use of truth drugs is eminently practical.

The other thing, which seems to be the central question of this entire universe: what is free will, and how can anyone tell if a slave is exercising it? Poor Dylan has fallen into the "master knows best" lazy thinking. Yes, Kyle may be a slave, and yes, Kyle may be attempting to seduce Dylan to better his own situation, but that doesn't mean that Kyle may just want to fuck Dylan because he's hot and bothered. How can anyone trust what the other is thinking? Houses have turned into armed camps, and masters and slaves both are in a state of siege warfare, always on the defensive and never knowing where to turn.

I'm really interested in seeing how Kyle breaks through Dylan's myopia and gets Dylan to focus on him instead.
